Clothing
At Reign Vintage, we have hand measured every garment and assembled a comprehensive guide to show you how we measure our pieces and how you can ensure the perfect fit.
Please bear in mind that sizing labels on vintage garments and standardised measurements of clothing have changed over the decades and also vary between countries.
We have included visual illustrations of how we measure our garments and advise that you measure yourself the same way (in inches).
If possible, it is also helpful to measure a similar garment you know fits well to compare proportions.
Clothing Size Guide
We have compiled these size charts to be a fair representation of clothing sizes. However, we advise that you use them as an approximate guideline and compare your individual measurements to those stated on each item’s product page before purchase.
Certain garments are also designed to have a more casual fit, so the measurements may not correspond exactly to the size guidelines. Where applicable this will be stated in the individual product description and the suggested fit will be indicated in the garment’s image gallery.
Please note: All our garments are measured flat

How We Measure Clothing
Please note: All our garments are measured flat
Blouses / Shirts / T-Shirts / Sweatshirts / Jumpers / Jackets / Coats
Chest | Measurement from underarm to underarm then doubled for correct sizing. You can measure this by wrapping the tape around the fullest part of your chest. |
Sleeve | Measurement from the shoulder to the cuff. |
Raglan Sleeve | Measurement from the top of the neckline to the end of the sleeve cuff. Some garments do not have a shoulder seam due to a ‘Raglan’ sleeve design, where the shoulder has a seamless curve. As there is no specific shoulder seam from which to measure the sleeve length, we measure from the top of the neckline to the end of the sleeve cuff to provide better accuracy. |
Length | Measurement from the shoulder to the lowest point of the hemline on the garment. |
Shoulder | Measurement from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. This measurement will be provided for more structured garments such as Jackets and Coats to ensure a more tailored fit. |
Skirts
Waist | Measurement is taken from the narrowest part of the waist then doubled for correct sizing. Where the waistband is elasticated we will measure it stretched in proportion to the garment. Sometimes an elasticated waistband can provide an allowance for a larger size if stretched a little further without distorting the shape of the garment. In this instance, we will indicate a minimum and maximum waist measurement as part of our product description.
Hips | Measurement is taken below the waist at the hip. This is only applicable to form fitted skirts.
Thigh | Measurement is taken from the widest part of the garment. This is only applicable to form fitted skirts
Length | Measurement is taken from the top of the waistband to the lowest point of the hemline on the skirt. |
